SovraQ will have fewer features than the big American office suites — on purpose. Every feature we leave out is a decision to protect something more important: your control over your own work. This is the story of the choices behind SovraQ, and why we believe they are worth it.
The deal you never signed
The big suites are impressive. Thousands of features, hundreds of integrations, an AI assistant in every corner. It feels like you get more every year.
But look at what comes with it. Your data runs through systems you cannot see, under laws you did not choose. New features switch themselves on. AI reads your documents to "help". Terms change and you click "accept", because leaving would mean losing everything.
Somewhere along the way, the deal changed. You stopped being the one in charge.
What we chose instead
When we started SovraQ, we wrote down a few principles. Every decision since has been tested against them.
European, all the way down
SovraQ runs on servers in the Netherlands, rented from a Dutch hosting company. No American cloud underneath, no American parent company, no American law reaching in. That rules out some of the most convenient building blocks in the industry. We accepted that.
Open source at the core
Underneath SovraQ run proven open-source engines and open standards for mail, calendars, documents and files. That means your data lives in open, standard formats that other software can read. You can always leave, including leaving us. We think a provider that you are free to leave has to keep earning your trust.
Nobody reads your mail
No advertising. No profiling. No training AI models on your messages and documents. Your mailbox is not a resource for us to use; it is yours.
You decide
If we ever change how SovraQ handles your data, we will tell you in advance, in plain language. You will be able to export everything and leave, without asking permission.
What you won't get
Being honest about this matters, so here it is. At launch, SovraQ will not have:
- Hundreds of third-party integrations. Each one is a door through which your data can leave Europe.
- An AI that reads everything you write. If we add AI, it will run under the same rules as everything else — European, opt-in, under your control.
- Every advanced feature of a desktop office package. The documents and spreadsheets cover what most teams need daily. Some power-user features will come later, some never.
If your work truly depends on those things, SovraQ may not be for you yet. We would rather tell you now.
What you will get
- The essentials, done well: mail, documents and spreadsheets at launch — designed to work together, with more apps to follow.
- A clean, calm interface without the noise of features you never use.
- Certainty. You know where your data is, who can access it and under which law. You know you can leave.
That last point is the real product. Features can be copied. Autonomy cannot be added later to a platform that was not built for it.
Why this matters now
Europe is waking up to how dependent it has become. Governments are moving away from American platforms. Businesses ask where their data lives. Families wonder who looks at their photos. (Read: who can switch off your organisation?)
We are building SovraQ for people who have already answered that question for themselves: we want to be in charge of our own work. Consumers, small businesses, non-profits — anyone who would rather own something a little simpler than rent something they don't control.

Frequently asked questions
Why does SovraQ have fewer features than Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?
Because every feature is tested against our principles: European hosting, open source, no reading of your data and the freedom to leave. Features that would break those principles are left out.
Where is SovraQ hosted?
On servers in the Netherlands, with a Dutch hosting company. No American cloud services are used.
Can I take my data with me if I leave SovraQ?
Yes. SovraQ uses open, standard formats for mail, calendars, contacts and documents, so you can export everything and move it to another provider.
